Album Review: Wet Willy by Gym Shorts
Album ReviewsTHEY REALLY LIKE WRITING IN ALL CAPS AND TAKING GIANT BONG RIPS!!!!!! We love this band. They inspire us to stick close to our truth. Our favorite song: BURRITO. (Reviewed on our #22 podcast, a Bag of Dix.)
Album Review: Chime by Sandy’s
Album ReviewsBeautiful, only-somewhat-strange California music that takes some Beach Boys kinds of ideas and moves them in very interesting directions. Our favorite song: I and I. (Reviewed on our #22 podcast, a Bag of Dix.)
Album Review: All I Can Ask by Her Pilots
Album Reviews
Sturdy, straight-up rockers from a band of Greenville, SC all-stars. They also like to dress up like pilots. Awesome. Our favorite song: All I Can Ask. (Reviewed on our #22 podcast, a Bag of Dix.)
Album Review: Flytrap by Monkey Biscuit
Album ReviewsLoud, slurring songs about snot, and recess, and sausage rolls do not disguise the fact that this is a musically talented young band. They would probably not admit it, but their songwriting is well above average. Our favorite song: I Just Wanna Lern. ((Reviewed on our #21 podcast, the Ultimate Compliment.)
Album Review: Spring by Fisher
Album ReviewsThis sweet and honest album seems like it could be easily explained but it can’t. Something takes place here between the singer and the songs that doesn’t happen very often, and this album is as unique as it is simple. Our favorite song: Amber Brown (and Riding My Bike to the Grocery Store). (Reviewed on our #21 podcast, the Ultimate Compliment.)
Album Review: Rift by Forming the Void
Album ReviewsSweeping soundscapes, big concepts, and a dark, dark emotional palate. This Louisiana band’s roots allow them to be vaguely, darkly spiritual while saying almost nothing. Our favorite song: Arrival. (Reviewed on our #21 podcast, the Ultimate Compliment.)
Album Review: Constance by The Restoration
Album ReviewsThis imaginary time and country of the old American South is doomed, optimistic, playful, sad. Lots of stringed instruments. Five stars. Our favorite song: Constance. (Reviewed on our #21 podcast, the Ultimate Compliment.)
Album Review: Los Muertos by Arson Daily
Album ReviewsThey’re young, talented, and their command of music seems pretty effortless. We look forward to more from this band. (Reviewed on our #20 podcast, hills hoists.)
Album Review:This Will Haunt Me by Dollar Signs
Album ReviewsDo you like emo? If your answer is ‘kind of’ then you will love Dollar Signs. Mixing punk with personal/emotional angst really works (they call it ‘student-loan-core’). Our favorite song: Tears/Beers/Fears. (Reviewed on our #20 podcast, hills hoists)
